Toyota Taisor Could Be The Name Of Baleno-based Crossover

Toyota has recently launched the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder compact SUV, which has received positive response from car buyers. The company is preparing multiple new models including the new Innova Hybrid and a new SUV Coupe or Crossover. Toyota has now trademarked the ‘Taisor’ nameplate in India.

It is expected that Toyota could use the Taisor nameplate for its upcoming model based on the Baleno hatchback. Toyota has already started testing the new crossover, which is expected to be launched sometime early next year. Not just Toyota Taisor, the Japanese automaker has also trademarked the Innova Hycross nameplate. It is expected to be the name of the next-gen Innova MPV, which is reportedly to be launched in our market in the next few months. The new model is scheduled to make global debut in Indonesia in November 2022.

Maruti Suzuki is also testing a new Baleno based crossover, which is scheduled to make debut at Auto Expo 2023 in January. It is expected that the Toyota’s version will arrive in our market in early next year. The company is also testing the Yaris Cross on the Indian roads. And, the new Toyota Taisor could share some of the styling cues from the global Yaris Cross.

The new Toyota version of the Baleno Cross will be designed and developed on Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform, which underpins the new Baleno and the Glanza. The new model is expected to be powered by Suzuki’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech. This engine is expected to produce around 100bhp and 150Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The crossover could also use the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual and AMT gearbox options.

The new Toyota Taisor Crossover will be positioned alongside the Urban Cruiser compact SUV. It will come equipped with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, a 360 degree camera and others as safety features. It is likely to share most of the features with the Baleno and the new Brezza. The crossover will offer features like a head-up display or HUD, automatic A, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless connectivity and others.
