Maruti Suzuki has outlined its strategy to diversify its product lineup by introducing a range of new SUVs, MPVs, and EVs in the upcoming years. Furthermore, the Indo-Japanese automaker plans to update some of its existing models this year, including the Swift and WagonR hatchbacks and the Dzire compact sedan. While the WagonR will undergo a mid-life update, the Swift and Dzire are ready to transition into their next generation shortly. The official launch timeline for these upcoming Maruti Suzuki vehicles remains undisclosed at this time. Nevertheless, reports suggest that the 2024 Maruti Swift and Dzire will be available in showrooms in the coming months.
The new Suzuki Swift, already making waves in the Japanese market, has begun arriving at dealerships for customer deliveries. Below are the first real-world images of the new model. Noteworthy enhancements to the Swift include the debut of the brand’s new 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine equipped with a 48V self-charging hybrid technology. This innovative setup claims to deliver 82bhp of power and 108Nm of torque.
The transmission duties are executed by a CVT automatic gearbox. It is pertinent to mention that the same gasoline motor is available without the hybrid technology. With and without the hybrid setup, the Swift is reputed to offer mileage figures of 24.5kmpl and 23.4kmpl, respectively. In the Indian market, the hatchback will feature the same engine, with transmission options including a manual and an AMT unit.
While the Japanese version boasts Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology, the Indian-spec Swift will not incorporate this feature. Many of its interior modifications draw inspiration from the new Fronx compact crossover. The hatch includes a 9-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Other interior upgrades encompass a semi-digital instrument cluster, a redesigned multifunctional steering wheel, and new HVAC controls, reminiscent of the Fronx.
Notable cosmetic adjustments have been made to the hatchback. The 2024 Maruti Swift features a front grille with new gloss black surrounds, more defined L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), and a revised front bumper with gloss black and brushed silver contrasting trims. Additionally, it sports a new clamshell bonnet. Design elements such as a widened bottom stance, a sharp shoulder line from the bonnet to the rear fender, and conventional door handles on the rear doors (as opposed to the C-pillar) differentiate it from the current generation.
The glasshouse with a wraparound effect, blacked-out C-pillar, squarish tailgate with C-shaped LED elements, dual-tone rear bumper, and hexagonal indents for reflectors and license plate further contribute to its distinctive appearance. Dimensionally, the new Maruti Swift is 15mm longer, 30mm taller, and 40mm narrower than its predecessor, with no alterations made to its wheelbase.
