2023 Toyota Innova Spotted Testing In India For The 1st Time

Japanese automaker, Toyota is preparing to give a big update to its popular Innova Crysta MPV. The new model was caught testing multiple times in Thailand. This time, the 2023 Toyota Innova Crysta has been spotted testing in India. The outgoing model was first launched in 2016 and is due for an upgrade.

The 2023 Toyota Innova does not look different to the outgoing model. Only the rear and side profile of the MPV was spotted, which looks similar to the current model. We believe that Toyota could give a major upgrade to the Innova instead of introducing the next-gen model.

The side profile shows a large greenhouse area similar to the current model. The rear quarter window shapes appear different. The company has also made the sheet metal changes down to the rear quarter panel. The 2023 Toyota Innova rides on newly designed alloys, which seems identical to the model spotted in Thailand.

The previously spotted model was covered in thick cloth. The visible elements are the split LED tail-lights without vertical elements, roof mounted spoiler with stop lamps, and a large boot lid. The rear bumper also has different design, which suggests that the 2023 Toyota Innova will have a different front design. It is likely to come with all-new front fascia, featuring a new radiator grille, bumper and new headlamps.

The new Innova is expected to make global debut sometime late this year or early 2023. It is most likely to be based on the current IMV architecture. However, few reports suggest that the new Innova could be developed on Toyota’s  TNGA (Toyota New Generation Architecture) platform. This platform is versatile enough to accommodate different body styles and powertrains..

The current Innova Crysta is offered in an RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) setup. Due to TNGA platform, the next-gen Toyota Innova is most likely to be offered in front-wheel-drive layout. The MPV is likely to be offered in petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrain options. The vehicle is likely to retain the 2.4-litre diesel engine with manual & automatic gearbox.

Previous reports suggest that Toyota could discontinue the diesel engine, as Suzuki and Toyota have decided to promote petrol, hybrid, CNG and electric as fuel options in the market. The company could sell the current model alongside the new Innova; however, the former is most likely to be reserved for the fleet owners.
