The new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC has finally gone on sale in India. The model lineup comprises two variants – 300 4Matic and 220d 4Matic – priced at Rs 73.5 lakh and Rs 74.5 lakh, respectively. In this segment, it directly competes with the Audi Q5 (Rs 62.35 lakh – Rs 68.22 lakh), BMW X3 (Rs 68.50 lakh – Rs 87.70 lakh), Volvo XC60 (Rs 67.60 lakh), and Land Rover Discovery Sport (Rs 71.39 lakh). The new GLC showcases noticeable cosmetic changes along with significant feature upgrades.

Starting with the powertrain options, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC offers a 2.0L turbo petrol engine (for the GLC 300) and a 2.0L diesel engine (for the GLC 220d). The former generates a peak power of 258bhp and 400Nm of torque, while the latter produces 197bhp and 440Nm of torque.
Both powertrains are enhanced with 48V mild hybrid technology and an integrated starter generator, providing an additional 23hp and 200Nm. These engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and the 5-seater SUV comes with Mercedes’ 4Matic AWD (all-wheel drive) system as standard.
The new GLC features increased dimensions compared to its predecessor, with a length extended by 60mm and a wheelbase extended by 15mm, measuring 4,716mm and 2,888mm, respectively. Its height has been reduced by 4mm to 1,640mm, while the width remains at 1,890mm. The boot space has grown to 620 litres, an increase of 70 litres from the previous generation, and the ground clearance has also been raised by 20mm.
Inside, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC’s interior design bears a strong resemblance to the new C-Class. It incorporates a Maybach S-Class-inspired 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a pinstripe pattern. The SUV features an 11.9-inch touchscreen MBUX infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, an air purifier, and heated front seats with a memory function. For safety, the all-new GLC offers Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology and 7 airbags.
A standout feature in the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC is the virtual ‘transparent bonnet,’ utilizing a front camera to display what’s beneath the vehicle. The SUV also includes an off-road driving mode. Cosmetic changes encompass a larger grille with a single horizontal slat and a more prominent three-pointed signature logo, updated LED headlamps, and newly-designed 19-inch alloy wheels.
