Hyundai has officially released the teasers and technical details of the new gen Verna sedan for the Indian market. In fact, customers can book the 2023 Hyundai Verna online or at authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000. It is reportedly to enter production in March 2023, while launch is likely by May 2023.
2023 Hyundai Verna – Engine Options
The new-gen Verna sedan won’t be offered with a diesel engine options. The company has confirmed that the new Verna will only be offered with two petrol engine options. In fact, Hyundai won’t offer the 1.0L turbo petrol engine with the new sedan. It will come with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre Turbo GDi petrol. Both engines will be compliant with the upcoming RDE (Real Driving Emission) norms.
The 1.5L NA petrol engine in the current form offers 115PS and 144Nm of torque, and the same is expected with the upgraded unit. It will be offered with 6-speed manual and a CVT or IVT (Intelligent Variable Transmission). The turbo petrol engine is currently powering the global-spec models and is capable of producing 160PS and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) and 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (7DCT).
The 2023 Hyundai Verna will be the most powerful model in its category. The current VW Virtus & Skoda Slavia are the most powerful in its segment. Both models are powered by a 1.5L Turbo petrol engine producing 150PS and 250Nm of torque. Hyundai has discontinued the existing 1.4L turbo petrol engine, which won’t be upgraded to meet RDE norms.

The new Verna will be offered in 4 trim levels – EX, S, SX and SX (O). It will come in 7 single tone and two dual-tone exterior paint options. Adding to it, the sedan will receive 3 new colours – Abyss Black, Atlas White, Tellurian Brown. The sedan will receive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). It will offer multiple active and passive safety features including automatic emergency braking, forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and more.
