Mahindra has officially announced to launch 9 brand new products including the XUV700 in the country by 2025-26. The company has already launched the XUV700, which has received overwhelming response from buyers. The next big launch from Mahindra is the next-gen Scorpio, which is currently in its final testing phase.
2022 Mahindra Scorpio Launch Timeline
The new generation Scorpio was scheduled to be launched in the mid-2021; however, the launch has been pushed to 2022. The launch has been delayed due to semi-conductor chip shortage. The SUV will be launched in the first half of 2022, most probably by April-June.
New Scorpio Engine Options
The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be based on the ladder-frame chassis, which also underpins the new Thar. The SUV is likely to share the diesel engine with the XUV700 MX variant, which is equipped with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mHawk turbo engine. This engine is capable of producing 155bhp of power and 360Nm of torque. The XUV700 also gets the more powerful version of this engine, which offers 185bhp and 450Nm of torque.
The petrol version will receive the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Thar and the XUV700. It is likely to get the de-tuned version of the engine, which offers 150bhp and 300Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Rear-wheel-drive layout will be offered as standard, while the top-spec model will get AWD system.
Seating Layout
The new Scorpio will be offered with multiple seating configurations. The new model will grow in size, which is also evident from the spy images. Thanks to the increase in dimensions, the new Scorpio will offer more space inside the cabin. In fact, the SUV will also offer the forward-facing third-row of seats. The lower-spec models are likely to offer side bench-type seats. Similar to the XUV700, the new Scorpio could also offer a 5-seater derivative.
2022 Mahindra Scorpio Interior
The new Scorpio will come with an all-new interior, which is also revealed in multiple spy images. The SUV will offer better fit and finish, and better equipped cabin. The SUV will be equipped with a new touchscreen infotainment system that’s likely to be around 8-inch in size. Air vents are placed vertically, while the control buttons are placed below the touchscreen. It will feature a 360 degree camera placed below the centre console along with the car key reminder, hazard lamps and seat belt warnung for driver and front passenger.
The SUV will also offer 12V power socket, a USB charging port and a fast charging unit. There is a large rotary dial on the central console, which will enable off-road driving mode including Rock, Snow, Mud and 4 High and 4 Low for 4WD system. The SUV will get a multi-functional steering wheel, semi-digital instrument console, a factory-fitted electric sunroof, a micro-hybrid function engine start/stop, a dual-zone climate control, driver side armrest and connected car technology.
All-New Design
The new-gen Scorpio will retain the tall and rugged stance with masculine design, big Mahindra grille and long body. It will come with a six-slat vertically stacked grille, flanked by conventional headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, and a larger bumper with massive air-dam. Other styling elements include raked windscreen, side opening tailgate, LED tail-lamps, roof-rails, extended rear overhangs and massive wheel arches with plastic protectors.
