The Japanese carmaker recently teased the new-generation Honda Civic hatchback revealing silhouette of the model. It’s slated to launch in the US market on 23rd June, followed by its Japan debut a day after. While the hatchback’s official unveiling is a few days away, a digital rendering previews a possible design of the production-ready model. The 2022 Honda Civic hatchback shares some of its design elements with the new Civic sedan, especially the front fascia. The trunk, however, has been replaced with the hatch.
The rendered new Civic hatchback carries Accord-inspired styling along with vertically positioned, sharp body creases just above the door handles. Its rear section looks different with newly-designed taillamps. The spy images confirm that the 2022 Honda Civic hatchback will carry newly-designed grille with honeycomb mesh insert, lower bumper integrated wider air intake and slimmer headlamps. Other key changes will include revised A-pillar design, a larger greenhouse area with new rear quarter glass and a small diffuser.
Interior will also share resemblance with the new Civic sedan. The hatchback is likely to come with a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument panel with a 10.2-inch display, a 12 speaker Bose stereo system, Honda Sensing safety systems and many more goodies. Engine setup might also be borrowed from the sedan sibling. That means the 2022 Honda Civic hatchback will come with the 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine options. While the former makes 158bhp, the latter one is good enough for 180bhp. There will be two gearboxes on offer – a CVT automatic (standard) and a 6-speed manual. The Type R variant could be offered with a 400bhp motor coupled to AWD (all-wheel-drive) system.
Official details of the new Civic hatch will be revealed on coming 23rd June. One must note that the carmaker has no plan to launch the new-generation Honda Civic sedan and hatchback in the Indian market.
