Japanese automaker, Honda has officially released the first picture of the new Honda Civic 2022. The company had revealed the Civic Prototype in November 2020. The first picture confirms that the new Civic looks largely identical to the concept. Honda has officially announced to reveal all details of the new model on April 28.
The 2022 Honda Civic will first go on sale in the United States with production to commence in Canada. Honda plans to present the new Civic 2022 via “Honda Civic Tour” event, which is basically a series of presentations throughout the North American summer.
In the statement, Honda said that “Inspired by the timeless design and human-focused values of past Civics, designers and engineers prioritized Honda’s human-centered design philosophy, which maximizes the total environment for the driver and passengers, while minimizing the space needed for mechanical components. The goal is to increase the driver’s ability to enjoy the car safely. The result is a sporty new look and an all-new simple and sporty interior that advances essential Civic values of uncluttered design, simple ergonomics and exceptional visibility.”
The new generation 2022 Honda Civic looks largely identical to the prototype. It features wide and low stance that has been signature styling. The sedan has a more mature and cleaner design, and has lesser body creases. Upfront is a wide, horizontally placed LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, and a body-coloured grille. The front design is inspired by the new generation HR-V. It comes with new front bumper with a larger fog lamp housing finished in black. There is a strong shoulder line that runs across the length and merges into the wraparound tail-lamps. The sedan also shares some of the design highlights from the larger Accord sedan. The rear has simple LED tail-lamps, new bumper and new tailgate.
The company had revealed the interior renderings of the new Civic. It features simple dashboard with minimal buttons. The instrument console is free of visual clutter, minimizing cut lines and breaks to offer driver a clear view of the road ahead. The new Civic is claimed to offer multiple new Civic-first technologies, including an all-digital driver’s meter cluster and a new 9-inch full-HD free-standing touchscreen infotainment system.
The leaked images reveal that the new Civic will come with a panoramic sunroof. The sedan will also get an upgraded suite of Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technologies, and multiple new airbag designs. The sedan is likely to be based on the brand’s new Global platform, which is expected to be stronger, safer and stiffer than the current architecture.
It is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 174bhp and a peak torque of 220Nm. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.
