2021 Toyota Innova Facelift – All You Need To Know

Japanese automaker, Toyota has recently revealed the Innova facelift for the Indonesian market. This is the first major change for the Innova MPV since it launched back in 2016. The 2021 Toyota Innova facelift has also been awarded with 5 stars in the ASEAN NCAP crash tests. It is claimed that the new model is able to provide safety protection for humans in its cabin when an accident occurs.

India Launch Timeline

It is expected that the 2021 Toyota Innova facelift will arrive in our market in early 2021. The company will first launch the Fortuner facelift in the next 2-3 months. In fact, the new Fortuner has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads.

Design Changes

The 2021 Toyota Innova facelift comes with significant design changes; however, the oveall shape and profile of the model remains the same. Majority of the changes are given to the front profile. It comes with a larger grille with a thick chrome outline. There are five horizontal slats in the grille instead of two chrome-finished slats in the outgoing model. The newly styled bumper has vertical black housing for the fog lamps and turn signals. The aggressive looking bumper also has a blacked-out chin section with a faux silver skid-plate. The headlamp unit has also been revised and it now features projector headlamps.

The side profile of the new Innova is largely identical to the current model, except for the new set of alloys. It features newly styled dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels. The rear profile also remains the same, featuring wrap around LED tail-lamps and new rear license garnish. There is a black hexagonal section between the tail-lights and extends down to the licensing plate slot.

The company has also revealed a sportier new TRD SPORTIVO variant of the new 2021 Innova, which comes with new TRD Sportivo front bumper, front grille ornament, TRD sportivo rear bumper and side skirt, and new 17-inch black alloy wheel.

Interior Changes

The overall layout and styling of the new Innova’s cabin remains identical; except for the few changes. It gets new instrument console design, an all-black interior scheme and a new six-seat layout. The six-seater model gets captain chairs for the second-row, while the 7-seater will have bench-type seats for second row.

The MPV’s top-end variant gets a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. It also has an integrated air purifier. It has black color captain seat with features like seat table and a rear passenger entertainment screen mounted on the centre console. It gets new upholstery for seats in different pattern, and new embellishment for the new wooden panel.

The TRD Sportivo variant gets extra protection cabin air filter, premium wooden instrument panel, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and premium illuminated LED. It also gets added features like seven airbags, cruise control, speed-sensing door locks, hill-start assist, ambient lighting, leatherette seat covers, reverse camera, keyless entry and go, and etc.

Engine Specs

In Indonesia, the 2021 Toyota Innova is available with 2 engine options – a 139PS, 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and a 149PS, 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder diesel. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

2020 Toyota Innova Crash Tests

The India-spec Innova facelift is likely to receive some high-end features like 360 degree camera park assist and wireless charging. In our market, yhe MPV is available with two BS6-compliant engines – a 2.4-litre diesel and a 2.7-litres petrol. The petrol engine is capable of producing 164bhp of power and a peak torque of 245Nm. On the other hand, the oil burner is good for 148bhp and 343Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual with RWD (standard) and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (Optional).
