The second-generation Mahindra Thar has doing really well for the home-grown carmaker. In fact, the off-road SUV has already been sold out till May 2021. With the generation change, the Thar took a big leap in terms of design, features and performance. The SUV received new 152bhp, 2.0L turbo mStallion petrol and 132bhp, 2.2L diesel engines along with a new 6-speed automatic gearbox.
In order to further boost its sales, the carmaker is planning to give a few more updates to the new 2021 Mahindra Thar in coming months. According to a fresh report, the company has been working on a new removable hard-top variant of the SUV. The model was recently caught on camera during its test rounds in Chengalpet near Chennai. The new model has a two-piece roof with three segments and a differently styled rear screen mounts. However, the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed anything about the convertible hard-top variant.
The 2021 Mahindra Thar will also receive a new 180 mStallion Pro turbocharged petrol engine. As of now, details of the new motor are not available. Though, it’s reported to be more powerful and faster than the existing 150bhp, 2.L petrol motor. The new 180 mStallion petrol engine will deliver a top speed of around 180kmph. The off-road SUV will also receive new colour schemes including White, Silver and Olive. At present, buyers have 7 paint schemes to choose from – Aquamarine, Rocky Beige, Napoli Black, Red Rage, Aqua Marine Galaxy Grey and Mystic Copper.
In the latest round of Global NCAP, the new Mahindra Thar received a 4 star safety rating. The off-road SUV secured 4 star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection. The tested model was the higher-spec LX variant with hardtop roof featuring Isofix child seat anchorages, three-point seat belts as standard fitments.
