2020 Toyota Innova Scores 5 Stars In ASEAN NCAP Crash Tests

The 2020 Toyota Innova Crysta has received 5-star crash test safety rating in the ASEAN NCAP. Not just Innova, Toyota’s new Fortuner and Hilux lifestyle pick-up also scored 5 star safety rating in the crash tests. The model used in the test was equipped with a 2.0-litre petrol engine, which is available in the Indonesian-spec model.

The 2020 Toyota Innova scored a total of 82.69 points, which is slightly less than the Hilux and the Fortuner. All three models share the ladder-frame chassis. While the Hilux pick-up scored 83.42 points, the 2020 Fortuner receives 87.46 points. For adult occupant safey, it scored 45.90 points. It scored 21.51 for child occupant safety and 15.28 points for safety assist technologies.

The test results suggest that the 2020 Toyota Innova is able to provide safety protection for humans in its cabin when an accident occurs. The tested model was equipped with two air bags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution). The vehicle also gets seat-belt reminders for driver and front passenger. The test agency also stated that it has extended the front off-set test score of the 2016 Innova to the 2020 model as there are no structural changes.

The 2020 Toyota Innova is expected to arrive in our market in the next few months, most probably in January-March 2021. The MPV received some design changes such as a large hexagonal grille with new 5 horizontal slats and chrome surrounds, new bumper with vertical black housing for the fog lamps and turn signals, and new headlamps. It also gets new alloys, wrap-around LED tail-lamps and new rear license garnish.

Inside the cabin, the MPV gets a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, new seat upholstery, seat table and an entertainment screen for rear occupants, and integrated air-purifier and premium ambient lighting. The Indonesian-spec model is available with 2 engine options – a 139PS, 2.0L petrol and a 149PS, 2.4L diesel.

In our market, the MPV will come with two BS6-compliant engines – a 2.4-litre diesel and a 2.7-litres petrol. The petrol engine is capable of producing 164bhp of power and a peak torque of 245Nm. On the other hand, the oil burner is good for 148bhp and 343Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual with RWD (standard) and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (Optional).
