Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, the hatchback from the South Korean carmaker, has scored 2 stars for adult occupant safety and 2 stars for child occupant safety at the Global NCAP crash tests. The tested model was the base variant that comes equipped with dual airbags, driver and passenger seatbelt reminder, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), rear parking sensors, speed alert system and engine immobilizer safety fitments. The footwell area and body shell of the hatchback were rated unstable.
During the crash test, the crash dummies showed non-fatal injuries in the lower half of the body. The Grand i10 Nios offers good protection to head and neck and adequate protection to the chest area. The hatchback doesn’t offer standard ISOFIX child mount seat and 3-point seatbelts for all occupants. Due to lap belts in the middle position, it’s impossible to install the child restraint system properly and safely.
Launched in August 2019, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios comes in four trims – Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. The hatchback has been powered by a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre petrol and a BS4-compliant diesel engine. The U2 CRDi oil burner is a three-cylinder, turbocharged unit that pushes out a peak power of 75hp and 190Nm of torque. The Kappa petrol motor has been tuned for generating power worth 83bhp with 114Nm of torque. Read – Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Corporate Edition Prices, Features
