Tata Motors has officially announced to launch 10 new electric cars in the Indian market by 2025. The company is currently selling the electric derivative of Tigor and the Nexon. In order to further improve its market position, Tata Motors is now planning to launch two new EVs in the next 1 years.
Tata will launch the Altroz EV and a new compact electric mini SUV. The mini SUV will be based on the HBX concept, which was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. While the Altroz EV will arrive in early next year, the HBX based EV could launch in the second half of 2022. Both models are expected to be priced under Rs 10 lakhs.
Tata Altroz EV
The Altroz EV is expected to be powered by the same electric powertrain that powers the Nexon EV. The Nexon EV features an IP67 certified 30.2kWh battery pack with a permanent magnet AC motor. It is expected to offer a range between 250km and 300km. The battery is likely to take around 1 hour to get charged up to 80% with DC fast charging and 8 hours to get fully charged with a regular power socket.
The hatchback is likely to receive ZConnect app, which offers 35 connected car features such as charging history, remote monitoring of the current battery charge levels, range, nearest charging stations, chare levels and more.
Tata HBX EV
Likely to be launched in 2022, the Tata HBX EV is expected to be the brand’s cheapest electric model in our market. The micro SUV will use the Ziptron EV powertrain technology that also powers the Nexon EV. The powertrain comprises of a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack powering a 129bhp, electric motor mounted on the front axle. The Nexon EV offers a claimed range of 312km on a single charge. The Tata HBX EV is likely to come with the updated electric powertrain offering an expected range of over 300km. Its power and torque outputs will stand at 100PS and 200NM respectively.
