More Ather Electric Scooters, Bikes Planned – Launch Timeline

Hero MotoCorp-backed electric two-wheeler manufacturer – Ather Energy is planning to expand its product portfolio in coming years.  Speaking to PTI, Tarun Mehta, CEO and co-founder of Ather Energy, revealed that the company has huge expansion plans for the next 4-5 years. The electric two-wheeler maker will use the Ather 450 platform’s to produce more variants over the next year. It will also bring in a new model in the scooter segment in a couple of years.

The Bengaluru-based firm will also foray into the electric bike segment in the coming years. The company also aims to increase production capacity to 5 lakh units per annum by the end of next fiscal year at its Hosur based plant in Karnataka. In order to expand its manufacturing capacity, Ather will invest Rs 130 crore over the next 4-5 years. At present, Ather has retail outlets in 13 cities and a total of 142 fast charging points across the country. It plans to expand its presence across 50 cities and setup around 500 fast charging stations by the end of this fiscal year. The electric two-wheeeler maker aims to have retail stores around 100 cities by the end of FY23.

Ather 450X Launched

The Ather 450 and Ather 450X electric scooters recently witnessed a significant price drop in Ahmedabad, thanks to the Gujarat EV policy and increase in FAME-II subsidy. It makes both models the most affordable electric scooters in Gujarat. Now, the Ather 450X costs Rs 1,26,926 (including the Rs 20,000 subsidy) in Ahmedabad. It’s nearly Rs 5,500 less than its prices in Delhi (Rs 1,32,426).

The 450X electric scooter comes with a 2.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor that’s good for 8.15bhp and 26Nm of torque. It can do 0 to 40kmph in 3.3 seconds and 0 to 60kmph in 6.5 seconds. The scooter offers a range of up to 116km and a top speed of 80kmph.
