Jeep Meridian 7 Seater Spotted Wearing A Production Body

American SUV maker, Jeep has registered the Meridian name in India. This is most likely to be the name of the upcoming Jeep 7-seater SUV, which is based on the Compass SUV. The SUV will first go on sale in Brazil in the second half of 2021. The international-spec model will be called the Jeep Commander. Ahead of the possible debut in the end of 2021, the Jeep Meridian has been spotted testing wearing production-ready body panels.

The spotted model was camouflaged, but the covers are not thick enough to hide the key details. The Jeep Meridian features a production-ready headlamp and tail-lamp. The SUV gets an horizontally placed LED tail-lamp and an upright tailgate. Also visible is a chrome bar that connects the two lights. The SUV also gets roof-integrated spoiler. The rear profile of the 7-seater Meridian is heavily inspired by the Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer.

The SUV shares the front design with the Compass; however, it gets slight revised bumper, slimmer grille and revised headlamps. Major changes are given to the side and rear profile, as it features longer rear doors with elongated body. It also gets a revised and bigger wheels.

The new Jeep Meridian will be based on the FCA’s Small-Wide 4×4 platform, which also underpins the Compass SUV. The platform has been modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase. Adding to it, the architecture will be stronger and stiffer, and will also accommodate the second-gen Renegade.

The new Jeep 7-seater SUV will be offered in 6-and 7-seat options. It will share the dashboard design with the Compass; however, it will have new premium finish. The SUV will feature a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with UConnect 5 software, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a digital instrument console, powered front seats and leather upholstery.

The Jeep Meridian will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine with a 48V mild hybrid system. This engine will be a twin-turbocharged unit, and is expected to produce around 200bhp of power and over 400Nm of torque. It will be paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Expected to be priced around Rs 28 lakh to Rs 35 lakh, the Jeep Meridian will be positioned against the Skoda Kodiaq, VW Tiguan AllSpace, Toyota Fortuner, etc.
