Tata Safari Electric SUV

Tata Motors showcased an exciting range of the new models and concepts along with its advanced technology and two new turbocharged petrol engines. The new Tata petrol engines are turbocharged including a new 1.2L, 3-cylinder and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder unit. While the former delivers a claimed power of 125PS at 5,000rpm and 225Nm of torque at 1700rpm – 3500rpm, the latter one makes 170PS at 5,000rpm with 280Nm between 2,000rpm – 3,500rpm.

The new Tata petrol engines can run on petrol and E20 ethanol petrol mix fuel. Both motors meet the BS6 Phase II emission standards. The gasoline motors are lightweight, thanks to their all-aluminium construction. In order to enhance their power and fuel efficiency, the carmaker has used the high-pressure direct injection technology and advanced combustion system. The motors also come with the water cooled variable geometry turbocharger, dual cam phasing, integrated exhaust manifold in cylinder head, maintenance free valve train and timing chain and variable oil pump along with the advanced exhaust system.

The new Tata petrol engines could be offered with manual and automatic gearboxes. While the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed models that will use these powertrains, the 125PS unit is expected to power the Nexon and the 170PS turbo-petrol motor might be used for the Harrier and Safari SUVs.

Currently, the Tata Nexon is available with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine that’s good enough for 120PS and 170Nm. The new gasoline motor will be around 5PS more powerful and 55Nm torqueier than the existing one. The Tata Harrier and Safari SUVs come with a 170PS, 2.0L diesel engine. While the power figure of the new Tata petrol engine is equivalent to the diesel motor, it produces 70Nm extra torque. When compared to the Mahindra XUV700 that’s available with the 200PS, 2.0L turbo petrol engine, the Harrier and Safari petrol versions will be slightly less powerful.
