2 New Mahindra, Tata SUVs Coming By October 2021

The home-grown automaker, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors have planned a range of new models for the Indian market. While the next big launch from Mahindra will be the XUV700 7-seater SUV, Tata will foray into the mini SUV segment with the HBX concept based vehicle. Both SUVs are scheduled to hit roads by October 2021. Here’s a brief on the upcoming Mahindra and Tata SUVs.

Mahindra’s new three-row SUV will be put up against the cars like MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and the upcoming Hyundai Alcazar. It will be Mahindra’s first production model to be built on the new monocoque platform. The model is reported to be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol version will use the 2.0L turbo unit making 188bhp, the diesel variant will get a 185bhp, 2.2L motor. There will be two gearboxes to choose from – 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Rumour has it that the XUV700 might also come with a mild hybrid powertrain. In terms of features, it will be well-equipped machine with goodies such as autonomous emergency braking system, ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and many more.

The production-ready version of the Tata HBX is reported to be named ‘Tata Timero’. Design and styling of the mini SUV will be inspired by the Harrier, especially the front fascia. Interior layout could be similar to the concept. It’s likely to offer a floating touchscreen infotainment system, Harman audio system, a multi functional steering wheel, a 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, ambient lighting, black fabric seats, parking sensors, multiple airbags, cornering stability control, ABS with EBD and more.

The lower variant of the HBX might be offered with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine generating power worth 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. The mini SUV will also be offered with a 1.2L turbo petrol motor delivering power around 100bhp. Buyers will have a choice between a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
