Skoda India is planning to expand its product portfolio with 3 to 5 new models in the next 12 months. The Czech automaker will also foray into the highly competitive sub-4 metre SUV segment to challenge cars like Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon. It will be the brand’s first model to come under its new India 2.5 plan. The model will be based on the MQB A0 IN platform and it’s reported to enter into production by January 2025. The Made-in-India Skoda compact SUV will be exported overseas.
The upcoming Skoda model lineup will include the updated Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan, new Superb, Enyaq EV and limited editions of the Octavia RS iV. Along with this, the company might stop local production of the Octavia and Superb sedans. Both models will be brought via CKD (completely knocked down) or CBU (completely built unit) route. In order to cater the high demand in the luxury SUV segment, the company might increase allocation of the Kodiaq by next year.
Petr Solc, the Director of Sales and Marketing of Skoda Auto India, has revealed that the company will achieve sales milestone of 50,000 units by the end of 2022. It will be the highest annual sales figures ever since Skoda’s arrival in the Indian market. The automaker has two fully localized models in its Indian product portfolio, namely, Kushaq and Slavia. Skoda India aims to increase its sales growth by two-folds in 2023.
Skoda Enyaq EV will be the first electric car from the Czech automaker in the country. Here, it could be made available in a single, range-topping variant that uses a 77kWh battery pack and dual motors. The electric car, with AWD (all-wheel drive) system, delivers a WLTP claimed range of up to 513km. Its battery pack can be charged by using 125kWh DC fast charger. The Enyaq iV underpins Volkswagen Group’s MEB born electric platform that’s already used in the Volkswagen iD4 and Audi Q4 e-tron.
