The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car was recently caught on camera during transporting in the Burdwan District of West Bengal. These were imported units for neighbor countries such as Bhutan and Nepal. The Ioniq 5 EV has also been planned for the Indian market, where it will see a release sometime this year. Here, it will be brought via CBU route and positioned as a flagship EV in the company’s Indian product lineup.
Globally, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is being offered with two powertrain options. The lower variants come with a single motor setup delivering a claimed power of 169bhp and 350Nm of torque. It transmits power to the rear wheels. The single motor version can accelerate 0 to 100kmph in 8.5 seconds. The dual motor version features AWD (all-wheel drive) and returns a peak power of 306bhp and 605Nm of torque. It’s capable to do 0 to 100kmph in 5.2 seconds, while achieving a top speed of 185kmph.
The automaker offers the Ioniq 5 with two battery packs – 58kWh and 72.6kWh – promising a maximum range of 385km and 481km on the WLTP cycle respectively. The model has an 800V battery technology that enables its ultra-rapid charging. Its battery packs can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes via a 220kW DC charger.
As of now, powertrain details of the India-bound model are not available. The new Hyundai electric car has been designed on a dedicated electric skateboard platform called Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It’s a flexible architecture that’s compatible to different body styles. Some of its key features include a pair of 12-inch displays (one for infotainment system and one for instrument cluster), digital screens for rear view mirror displays, Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech, advanced driver assistance and head-up display with augmented reality functions.
