We have reported earlier that Ford India is planning to launch the Ranger Raptor performance-oriented pick-up in the second half of 2021. According to a fresh media report, the company is also considering the Ford Focus hatchback and Focus ST hot-hatch for the Indian market. Similar to the pick-up, these two models will also be brought under the 2,500 units homologation exception rule. Both models are reported to hit Indian roads sometime next year.
Globally, the Focus hatchback has been offered with an advanced range of EcoBoost petrol EcoBlue diesel engines meeting the latest stringent Euro 6 emission standards. In India, the model is likely to be made available with 1.0L, 3-cylinder EcoBoost petrol and 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine options. While the former makes power worth 125PS, the latter is good enough for 160PS.
The Ford Focus ST will be power-packed with a 2.3L turbocharged petrol motor pushing out a peak power of 280PS and 420Nm of torque. The hot-hatch is capable to do 0 to 100kmph in less than 6 seconds. In International markets, the Focus ST is available with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic gearbox. Here, it might come with the automatic transmission only. The all-new model of the hot-hatch offers Selectable Drive Modes technology that enables driver to adjust the vehicle’s character to suit the driving scenario. It has SLA (Short Long Arms) suspension that optimizes the vehicle’s responses to driver’s inputs while maintaining the comfort quotient. In terms of design and features, the Ford Focus ST is slightly different from the regular model. The former comes with 19-inch wheels (instead of the 16-inchs units), Recaro seats and more.
The American carmaker will sell the limited units of the Focus ST hot-hatch. It will be more expensive than the regular Focus. Ford India will also give a generation change to the Figo hatchback sometime in 2022. Prior to that, the company will bring in the new-generation Ford EcoSport and a C-SUV co-developed with Mahindra & Mahindra.
