Buoyed by excellent response for Seltos and Carnival, Kia is now ready to introduce the much-awaited Sonet sub-4 meter SUV. The new Kia Sonet shares the platform and engine line-up with the Hyundai Venue. It is scheduled to be launched in our market in August-September 2020. The new model will be offered with multiple engine and gearbox combinations – a 1.2L NA Petrol with 5MT, a 1.0L turbo petrol with 6MT, 6-speed iMT and a 7DCT, and a 1.5L turbo-diesel with 6MT and 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The Kia Sonet is equipped with several segment-leading comfort and convenience features like ventilated front seats, powered sunroof, an integrated air-purifier with virus protection, automatic AC, 360 degree camera and many more. The SUV is likely to be priced somewhere between Rs 7.5 lakh and Rs 12 lakh.

Tata HBX

Tata HBX Micro SUV

Tata Motors’ long-awaited micro SUV, based on the HBX concept, will be launched in the first half of 2021. The company had showcased the close to the production concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be the brand’s second model to be based on the locally developed ALFA modular platform, which also underpins the Altroz premium hatchback. The new Tata HBX will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100.

The upcoming Tata HBX will share the interior with the Altroz hatchback. The company is also likely to introduce the electrified version of the HBX at a later stage. The micro SUV will be powered by a BSVI compliant 1.2L petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. It is likely to cost between Rs 4.5 lakh and Rs 7 lakh.

Nissan is all set to enter into the sub-compact SUV segment with the Magnite SUV. The company has revealed the pre-production version, which reveals aggressive design and premium interior. The new Nissan Magnite is scheduled to be launched in our market before the end of this financial year, around January 2021. The new model is based on the CMF-A+ modular platform that also underpins the Renault Triber.

The new Nissan Magnite is rumoured to be priced as low as Rs 5.25 lakh. It will be equipped with several high-end features including factory-fitted sunroof, 360 degree camera, connected car technologies and automatic AC. The new model will be powered by a 1.0L petrol engine in turbocharged and naturally-aspirated versions. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

Renault Kiger

Renault is also testing a sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed HBC in India. Rumoured to be called the Renault Kiger, the upcoming SUV will be based on the CMF-A modular platform. The new Kiger will share the engine specs with the Magnite compact SUV. The new model will take on the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and others in the sub-compact SUV segment. The new SUV is rumoured to be launched this festive season, before Diwali 2020. It is likely to be priced somewhere around Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh.

Toyota Urban Cruiser

After introducing the Glanza, Toyota is ready to launch a new compact SUV under the new Toyota-Suzuki partnership in India. Called the Urban Cruiser, the sub-4 meter SUV is basically the re-badged version of the Vitara Brezza. The SUV will share most of the features and the engine-gearbox options with the Brezza. Toyota will make some changes to the design to make it look different. It will get new Toyota grille, new front and rear bumpers and revised lower air-intake. It is likely to be offered in top versions only, expected to be priced around Rs 8.5 lakh and Rs 11 lakh.
