We reported earlier that Toyota is working on a new generation Innova for the Indian market which is likely to go on sale in 2015-16. The next generation Innova MPV has been spotted for the first time on the roads of Bangalore, India. The company has recently updated its top-selling UV, which could be the move to keep this product fresh before launching the next generation model.
Going by the pictures, the 2016 Toyota Innova features a newly designed grille flanked by new headlamps. The rear profile too gets changes including restyled tail lamps. The new generation Toyota Innova will be based on Toyota’s new global platform TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) and this platform will also underpins the next-gen Fortuner SUV. This architecture works similar to the Volkswagen’s popular MQB platform which already spawns a series of new cars.
The current generation Toyota Innova is based on Hilux platform. With the use of TNGA, the company will be able to share components among cars which are based on this flexible platform. The new generation Innova will feature a new range of diesel engines which are under development. The new generation Innova is likely to provide spacious cabin and is equipped with high end features. Interestingly, the diesel engine in the upcoming MPV features a new automatic transmission gearbox.
