German luxury car manufacturer BMW has introduced the Performance edition of the 1-Series luxury hatchback in India. Only 111 units of this M Performance Edition will be offered till 25th July 2014, and sales of this model have already started across the dealerships. This model gets additional sporty features; however, the 1-Series Performance edition does not get any “Performance” upgrade.
The limited edition model is equipped with rear spoiler with fins, black front grille, sportier front and rear bumper, racing strops and few others to add sporty character to this luxurious hatchback. The BMW 1-Series M Performance is powered by the same 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel unit that also powers the current model. This engine is capable of developing a top power output of 143bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. It accelerates to 100kmph from standstill in mere 8.6 seconds. The gasoline model gets the same 1.6-litre 4-cylinder unit that churns out 136bhp of top power and 220Nm of torque. This model crosses 0-100kmph barrier in just 8.7 seconds.
The BMW 1-Series Performance Edition is the direct answer to the likes of Mercedes-Benz A-Class special edition launched last month. The 1-Series is locally assembled at the company’s manufacturing unit in Chennai. Interestingly, the company is also working on the 1-Series facelift which is likely to go on sale by early next year.
