New Honda City Likely To Get 120bhp, 1.0L Petrol Engine
Japanese automaker, Honda is readying the next generation City sedan for the Indian market. The sedan has already been spotted multiple times during its test rounds. Already on sale in Thailand, the new City comes with all-new exterior and interior along with upgraded engine options. The new model is likely to be launched in the Indian market in 2020.
According to ET Auto, the next generation Honda City sedan will receive the new 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 120bhp of power and 173Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT automatic gearbox. This powertrain comes fitted with a BorgWarner single-scroll turbocharger, VTEC (variable valve timing and life electronic control) and VTC (dual variable valve timing control).
Besides this powertrain, the upcoming City will receive the BSVI compliant 1.5-litre iVTEC petrol and iDTEC diesel engines. While the former is good for 118bhp and 145Nm of torque, the oil burner is good for 99bhp and 200Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The new Honda City is also likely to receive a 1.5L petrol engine with Honda’s 2 motor e:HEV mild hybrid technology.
The 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is claimed to offer better performance and torque output than the tried & tested 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The Thailand-spec model is claimed to return an impressive fuel economy of 23.8kmpl.
In terms of proportions, the new Honda City is 4,553mm long, 1,748mm wide and 1,667mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,589mm. The sedan is around 63mm longer and 18mm wider than its closest rival Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
