With the growing demand for luxury cars; the three Big Germans- Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are set to launch a flurry of new cars in the Indian car market. This seems interesting as all three makers are aiming to capture the Pole position in the country’s luxury car market. Mercedes and BMW are betting big on their premium hatchbacks- A-Class and 1 Series, respectively. If media reports are to be believed, Audi is ready to make this competition even more interesting and is set to introduce the A3 hatchback in the market.
We reported earlier that Audi India will launch the A3 sedan in August and A3 Cabriolet in near future. Now, the company is reportedly planning to introduce the A3 hatchback in the Indian car market. This hatchback will directly compete against the Mercedes A-Class and BMW 1-Series. At the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the company showcased the A3 sedan and the A3 Cabriolet.
Both the model will be offered in one diesel and one petrol model. The gasoline model is powered by the 1.8-litre TFSI engine that produces 180PS while the diesel version gets the 2.0-litre TDI engine producing 150PS of top power. While the petrol version does 0-100kmph in 7.8 seconds, the oil burner takes 8.9 seconds to reach 0-100kmph.
The Audi A3 hatchback is likely to be the cheapest car from the Ingolstadt based car manufacturer in the Indian car market. The exact engine details of this car are yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to get the same engine configuration offered on the sedan model. The company might also introduce the smaller 1.4-litre TFSI engine with the A3 hatchback to keep its price down.
