Thanks to festive demand and positive customer sentiments, the Indian Automobile Industry recorded an impressive growth in October 2016. While the country’s top 3 passenger car manufacturers – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Mahindra, continued to do well, brands like Volkswagen and Nissan too did pretty well. Though the biggest shocker of the month was Tata Motors outselling Honda Cars India to grab the number 4 spot in India.
As against Honda’s 15567 units sold in October 2016, Tata Motors retailed a total of 16,142 in the same month. On the back of high demand for the Tata Tiago, the homegrown carmaker’s market share in the passenger vehicle segment increased to 5.8 percent. Honda’s market share in the month was 5.5 percent.
Besides cars, Tata Motors also did pretty well in the commercial vehicle space. Selling 30,169 commercial vehicles in October 2016, Tata Motors recorded an impressive 15 percent year-on-year growth. The passenger vehicles, on the other hand, recorded 28 percent growth which is the company’s highest sales in the last 4 years.

Cumulative sales growth of all passenger vehicles in the domestic market, were 88,976 nos., a growth of 15%, compared to 77,465 nos., in October 2015.
October has been a landmark month for Hyundai as well, as the company crossed 50,000 sales mark for the first time recording a growth of 6.4 percent. The country’s largest carmaker too did pretty well in the month with a total sales of 1,23,764 units. Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai’s market share in October 2016 were 44.1 percent and 17.8 percent, respectively.
