2016 Jaguar XF sedan is finally on sale in the Indian market. Available in three trim levels – Pure, Prestige and Portfolio – the new-generation XF is priced between Rs 49.50 lakh – Rs 62.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the Pure trim comes packed with a new 177bhp, 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel powertrain, the Prestige and Portfolio trims are available with a 237bhp, 2.0-litre petrol engine. In the luxury sedan segment, the new Jaguar XF will face challenge from cars like Mercedes E Class, BMW 5 Series, Volvo S60 and Audi A6.

All three variants of the new-gen XF derive their power from a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that belts out 177bhp and 430Nm of torque. This oil burner accelerates 0-100kmph in 8.1 seconds. The Prestige and Portfolio trims are powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine that develops power worth 237bhp and 340Nm of torque. It can mark 0-100kmph sprints in 7 seconds. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Ditching the old steel platform, the new Jaguar XF is based on a lighter aluminium iQ architecture. This makes it 190kgs lighter than the previous generation. With 28% improved rigidity, the new XF is more robust and better to drive. The overall length of the car has been reduced, while the wheelbase has been stretched by 51mm. On the exterior, the saloon also receives a larger mesh grille, contoured bonnet, bigger air intakes, revised fender vent, sharp shoulder line, boot-lid spoiler and dual exhaust pipes. The top-spec Portfolio variant exclusively offered with LED headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels, while XF variant gets bi-functional xenon headlamps and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The cabin of the new-gen XF is more feature-rich and upmarket than the old model. The XF Pure and Portfolio variants are loaded with 10-way and 14-way electronically adjustable front seats respectively. The mid-level Prestige trim comes with perforated leather seats and a memory function for the driver seat.
Other features on offer are an 8-inch touchscreen, dual-pod instrument cluster, dual zone climate control, an optional 828 Watt 17 speaker audio system by Meridian etc. The saloon also comes with the ‘Jaguar Drive Control’ feature offering four driving modes – Standard, Eco, Dynamic or Rain/Snow/Ice. This system enables driver to adjust steering wheel, gearshift speeds and throttle response settings as per driving conditions.
