The Mahindra Thar Daybreak Edition had made its first public appearance at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. With its rugged and aggressive looks, the modified Thar edition attracted bunch of visitors at the event. A latest report suggests that this special Thar edition is now on sale under the moniker of the home-grown carmaker’s sub-brand – Mahindra Customisation.

The customzied Thar edition will cost you around Rs 9.6 lakh (exclusive all taxes). If you opt for an optional hard top, it will get cheaper by Rs 1.5 lakh. The entire customization process will take at least 2 months.

The new Thar special edition is powered by the existing 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine that pushes out a maximum power of 105bhp at 3,800rpm and 247Nm of torque between 1,800rpm – 2,000rpm. Sending power to the all four wheels is a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The fascia of the Thar’s special edition looks quite bold and aggressive with blacked out grille, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, auxiliary lights, wider bonnet and red headlights with matte grey finish. The SUV also gets pronounced wheel arches with steel wheels and large 37-inch Maxxis Trepadors off-road tyres. Mahindra has adjusted the SUV’s suspension system by increasing its height by an inch or half to accommodate such beefy tyres. At the rear, one can notice a full-sized spare tyre, LED tail lights, customized bumper and high-mounted dual chrome exhausts. The SUV stands on a high ground clearance making it more compatible for rough terrains.

Inside, the SUV gets stylish dashboard with dual-tone theme along with a bunch of features such as a touchscreen infotainment system, four waterproof speakers, a new triple pod instrument console, upright centre console with ‘Thar’ branding, new AC controls, gear lever and cup holders. What add more to its sporty appeal are silver AC vents, silver accented steering wheel and Sparco rally seats. Features like roll over bar, rear axle differential lock system and heavy duty electric winch enhance its off-road capabilities.
