Swedish luxury car manufacturer Volvo has revealed the highly anticipated all-new Volvo XC90 SUV. Scheduled to be premiered at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, the second-generation XC90 shows the true artistry of Swedish luxury car manufacturer. The new model is claimed to be the safest, most economical and luxurious in its segment.

The XC90 also marks the introduction of Volvo’s new design philosophy, and the credit for the same goes to Thomas Ingenlath (ex-Volkswagen Group designer). The XC90 shares its styling cues with Coupe concept. The front fascia features a prominent chrome trimmed grille, which will be seen on future models, flanked by T-shaped LED daytime running lights. An elongated and carved bonnet curves back into the car’s shoulder line, which stretched all the way to the narrowed rear lights, exude the vehicles broad stance.

Inside the cabin, the new Volvo XC90 SUV gets new centrally mounted touchscreen, media and telephone. The XC90 features a new cloud-based navigation system provided by Ericsson. There are woods and leather trims given all around the cabin with handcrafted highlights such as glass gear level and starter button and volume controls in diamond cut designs. It also includes internet radio, music streaming and parking assist.

The second generation Volvo XC90 is based on the company’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which will also underpin Volvo’s future models. It is lighter, stronger and safer platform, which further increases passenger space in the second and third row of seats. The new model also gets an onyx black exterior, its flared wheel arches have been fitted to eight-spoke, 21-inch ‘Inscription’ alloy wheels and a nappa leather seats in amber.

The new Volvo XC90 gets new and efficient petrol and diesel engines. All the engines will be 2.0-litre 4-cylinder units and are the part of new Drive-E family. The T6 petrol is both turbo- and super-charged engine produces 316bhp, while the D5 diesel motor is twin-turbocharged producing 222bhp. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The vehicle also gets a new 390bhp plug-in hybrid powertrain, which combines the 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. The vehicle will go on sale in April 2015 and will be offered in all-wheel drive version only. However, the front-wheel drive 187bhp D4 diesel model will be made available from September next year.
