With an average monthly sales of 25,000 units, the new Bajaj Avenger motorcycles – the Street 220, the Cruise 220 and the entry-level Street 150 – are the best-selling motorcycles in their segment. The company sold over 31,000 units of the cruisers in February, 2016, and recorded highest ever monthly sales. Though the bikemaker hasn’t yet revealed the variant-wise sales data. The new Bajaj Avenger trios registered sales of 28,085 units and 20,182 units in month of January and December respectively.
In January 2016, the Bajaj Street 150 model had a total contribution of 40% with 15,722 units, while the Bajaj Street 220 and Bajaj Cruise 220 together reported 12,363 units. In terms of sales volume, the new Bajaj Avenger cruisers entered the list of top 10 motorcycles of the country in December, 2015. The company had introduced the new Bajaj Avenger models with an initial sales target of 9,000 units per month that was already exceeded three folds within two months of its launch.
New Bajaj Avenger Engine & Braking System
Power for the 220 twins comes from a 220cc, twin spark, oil-cooled DTS-i engine that is claimed to deliver a maximum power of 18.7bhp at 8,400rpm and 17.5Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. This powertrain has been borrowed from the Bajaj Pulsar 220. Transmission duties are performed by a 5-speed gearbox. For shocks absorption, both the models get telescopic with anti friction bush upfront and twin shock absorber rear suspension system. The 220 twins are equipped with a 260mm disc brake and a 130mm drum brake on front and rear axles respectively.
New Bajaj Avenger Design & Features
The new Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 looks more or less similar to the previous model albeit with lots of chrome elements and new body graphics. The bike features an updated instrument cluster with analogue and digital meter, a high-set handlebar with slightly different design, new fuel tank and exhaust, back support for pillion rider and new seats with better cushioning.
On the other hand, the Bajaj Street 220’s all-black treatment renders it a stylish look. The bike shares some of its design bits with the Street 750 such as black alloy wheels and blackened engine and exhaust. It also gets a new digital instrument cluster, black handle bar, black rear view mirror and new graphic treatment. Similar to the Pulsar Demon Black Edition, the Avenger Street 220 comes with red and silver stripes on the side panels. While the Street 220 comes in matte black colour, the Cruise 220 is now available in Divine Black and Desert Gold shades.
While the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 carries a kerb weight of 150kgs, the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 weighs 155kgs. Both the motorcycles ride on 17-inch front and 15-inch rear wheels that are fitted with 90/90 – 17″ 49P and 130/90 – 15″ 66P front and rear tyres respectively. Dimensions of the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 measure 801mm in width and 1,070mm in height, while the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 is 806mm wide and 1,142mm tall. Both the motorcycles are 2,177mm long, and have a wheelbase of 1,490mm and 169mm of ground clearance.
Since the new Bajaj Avenger 2015 models belong to a niche segment, they don’t have any direct rivalry.
