Yamaha FZ-X Will Be A 150cc Motorcycle; Based On FZ150

Speculations were on rife that Yamaha is working on new FZ-X adventure or XSR250 retro classic motorcycles. However, it is now confirmed via a type approval certificate that Yamaha will introduce a new FZ-X motorcycle in the country. It will be a modern-retro styling motorcycle, which will have design similarities with the XSR150 on sale in select international markets.

In terms of styling, the Yamaha FZ-X will come equipped with fork gaiters, box-style fuel tank, flat seat design, relaxed riding position and a digital instrument console, and upswept exhaust. The relaxed riding stance will make it suitable for urban ride as well as highway touring.

According to the type approval certificate, the 2021 Yamaha FZ-X will receive a new 149cc, air-cooled, SOHC engine that churns out a maximum power output of 12.4PS at 7,250rpm and a peak torque of 13.3Nm at 5,500rpm. This engine is paired to a 5-speed, constant mesh transmission.

Suspension mechanism will comprise of telescopic forks at the front and 7-step adjustable monocross at the rear. For braking duties, the motorcycle will get 282mm disc at the front and 220mm disc at the rear. The bike will get single channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) as standard.

The document also reveals the dimensions of the motorcycle. Dimensionally, the Yamaha FZ-X measures 2,020mm in length, 785mm in width and 1,115mm in height. The motorcycle has a wheelbase of 1,330mm, which is similar to the FZ15. The FZ is 1,990mm long, 780mm wide and 1,080mm tall.

The new motorcycle will join the Yamaha’s existing 150cc motorcycle range, which comprises of FZ, R15 and MT15. With the new bike, Yamaha would want to improve its market share in the highly competitive 150cc-200cc segment. The new motorcycle could be priced around Rs 1.10 lakh.
