Hyundai Santa Cruz Pickup With SUVish Design Unveiled – 10 Key Details

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup has made its world debut via official pictures. The carmaker says that the new pickup truck “boasts bold yet sophisticated design, powerful and efficient powertrain options, a flexible open bed for gear, cutting-edge connectivity and a highly maneuverable all-wheel drive platform”. Hyundai’s Montgomery, Alabama based facility will serve as production hub for the pickup from June 2021. The model will be launched in the U.S market in summer. Touted as Sport Adventure Vehicle, the new Hyundai Santa Cruz has created an all-new segment featuring SUV-ish stance, tough body-built, towing capabilities and adventure ready suspension setup.

The new Hyundai pickup shares lots of design elements with Tucson SUV. Though, it looks more squarish and carries robust creases. The 20-inch alloy wheels with a multi-faceted, triangular design are surrounded by armor-like wheel arches.

At the back, the new Santa Cruz pickup features a horizontal ‘T’ lighting signature, functional rear open bed area with lockable in-bed storage and tonneau cover and integrated corner bumper steps.

The new Hyundai pickup offers a large 10-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch display instrument cluster, 8-speakers Bose sound system, BlueLink connected car technology and leather upholstery. The glossy black finishes, several brushed aluminum details and soft parts further enhance its premium feel and appeal.

On the engine front, the new Hyundai Santa Cruz offers a 2.5L, 4-cylinder in-line directed injected and a 2.5L direct-injected turbocharged motor. While the former is likely to deliver power over 190bhp, the latter might be good enough for 275bhp.

There are two gearboxes on offer – an 8-speed hydraulic automatic unit and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic with steering mounted paddle shifters (for turbo-petrol variant only).

It gets an HTRAC AWD (all-wheel-drive) system with an electronic clutch as a standard feature. The pickup has towing capability between 1588kg (for 2.5L variant) – 2268kg (for 2.5L turbo AWD variant).

The safety kit of the new Hyundai pickup includes ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), forward collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, blind spot collision avoidance assist, lane keeping and highway driving assist, blind spot view monitor, surround view monitor, safe exist assist, smart cruise control and driver attention warning.
