Volkswagen Tayron 7-Seater SUV Revealed – India-Bound

Here’s the first images of the Volkswagen Tayron SUV. Production for this new global model will be centralized in the company’s facilities in Germany, China, and Mexico. As part of its global expansion, the Tayron is scheduled to enter the Indian market in 2025 as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kit. Positioned as a successor to the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace, it will directly compete with the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian. The initial market launch will occur in China.

Built on Volkswagen’s latest MQB EVO platform, the Tayron SUV will boast a range of powertrain options worldwide. This includes a 2.0L turbo petrol engine for the Chinese market and a 2.0L diesel engine for select markets, both enhanced with 48V mild hybrid technology, and available in 2WD/4WD configurations.

Additionally, the SUV will offer two petrol plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) featuring a 1.5L petrol engine, an electric motor, a 19.7kWh battery pack, a 6-speed DSG gearbox, and a 2WD setup. The PHEVs have an electric range exceeding 100km and support DC fast charging. While official specifications for the India-specific Tayron are yet to be disclosed, it is anticipated to be equipped with the 2.0L petrol engine. Read: Volkswagen’s EV Plans For India

In terms of dimensions, the new Volkswagen SUV stretches 4,735mm in length, 1,859mm in width, and 1,682mm in height. Notably larger than the Tiguan 5-seater, it surpasses its predecessor by 197mm in length, 17mm in width, and 43mm in height. The Tayron’s wheelbase is also extended by 111mm, measuring at 2,791mm. Despite its considerable increase in size, the Tayron shares several design elements with the Tiguan.

Turning attention to the interior, the Volkswagen Tayron SUV will feature a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen infotainment system available in 12.9-inch or 15-inch variations depending on the variant. The infotainment system includes a backlit slider controller akin to the one seen in the new VW ID 7, along with the latest MIB 4 digital menu structure. Below it, HVAC controls are neatly positioned. Noteworthy interior features include a newly-designed dashboard with a control panel, new air vents, and illuminated trim elements, elevating the overall premium feel and appeal of the Tayron.
