Volkswagen Tayron 7-Seater SUV Launch Confirmed

Volkswagen is set to introduce the three-row SUV Tayron as the successor to the Tiguan AllSpace in global markets. However, in the USA, the Tiguan AllSpace nameplate will be retained due to its popularity. The replacement for the North American market will be based on the next-generation Tayron SUV, which is already available in the Chinese market. While there are reports suggesting that the Tayron may make its way to India by early 2025 via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, an official confirmation is yet to be received. Built on the MQB-Evo platform, the new Volkswagen Tayron SUV will be offered in both SUV and coupe body styles for global markets. The SUV variant is expected to come with two seating configurations – 5 and 7 seats. Buyers will have a choice of two engine options – a 2.0L turbo petrol and a 2.0L diesel, both of which will benefit from a 48V mild hybrid technology. Transmission duties will be handled by a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox, and there might be options for both 2WD and AWD.

Additionally, two petrol plug-in hybrid versions with a 1.5L petrol engine and a 19.7kWh battery pack will be available. These hybrids offer two power outputs: 204bhp and 272bhp, and they boast a combined electric-only range of over 100km. They support DC fast charging and are paired with a 6-speed DSG gearbox for power delivery. In India, it’s likely that the Volkswagen Tayron will be offered with the 2.0L petrol engine exclusively. Importantly, all powertrains are engineered to meet the stringent EU7 emission standards right from the start.

In terms of design and styling, the new VW Tayron SUV will differ significantly from the Tiguan AllSpace, being larger and more spacious than its predecessor. For the European markets, the SUV will be manufactured at Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg facility in Germany.
