The third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan SUV has been officially unveiled, with a global launch scheduled for as early as the first quarter of 2024. The new Tiguan showcases significant changes in design, interior, and engine mechanics.

Let’s start with the powertrains. The new Volkswagen Tiguan is equipped with a new 1.5L petrol engine featuring mild hybrid technology. This setup delivers a claimed power output of 131bhp, but with front-wheel drive (FWD), it boosts to 150bhp. The 2.0L petrol engine has also been updated, producing 204bhp and 265Nm. It can be paired with two new FWD TSI 4Motion variants.

The 2.0L turbo diesel engine now comes with an updated exhaust system, available in FWD TDI and FWD TDI 4Motion variants, producing 150bhp and 193bhp, respectively. The petrol-hybrid powertrain is now based on a 1.5L eTSI unit, with a more powerful electric motor. Volkswagen claims the new hybrid models offer an electric range of around 100km.

Additionally, fast DC charging is now standard, and all eHybrid variants support fast AC charging. The new Tiguan petrol and diesel versions come with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, while plug-in hybrid models use a 6-speed DSG unit.

The width remains unchanged at 1,842mm. The new model also offers increased headroom, with 8mm more in the front and 10mm more in the rear. The non-plug-in hybrid variants provide a boot space of 652 liters, an increase of 37 liters.
