We informed you earlier that Jeep will reveal the name of the upcoming Compass based 7-seater SUV on April 4, 2021. The SUV is expected to make global debut in mid-2021, while India launch likely in the end of 2021 or early 2022. According to the Italian media, the upcoming Jeep 7-seater SUV will be called the Jeep Patriot.
The report claims that Jeep has evaluated several nomenclature, such as Grand Compass and Compass L, however, the Patriot name has finally been decided. For people not in the know, Jeep Sold the Patriot SUV in select international markets between 2007 and 2016. It was positioned above the Compass in the Jeep’s portfolio.
The new Jeep Patriot will have unique identity and will have different looks despite sharing engines and platform with the Compass. The new 7-seater Jeep SUV will be produced at the factory in Goiana (PE) for Brazil and South American markets. The SUV will also be manufactured in India for Asian and European markets.
The Jeep Patriot is expected to come with high-end tech features such as adaptive autopilot, automatic braking, blind spot alert and lane assistant. The new SUV will mark Jeep’s entry into the “D” segment which is currently dominated by the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. The new SUV will be based on the modified version of the Small Wide 4×4 platform. The platform is modified to accommodate longer wheelbase and for rigidity.
The Jeep Patriot 7-seater SUV will ride on longer wheelbase to add extra seats. The SUV will have extended rear three quarter, as the length will be increased from the “B” column. The height of the SUV will be significantly higher compared to Compass. The front design will be shared with the Compass; however, the SUV will have flatter rear design instead of the rounded profile in the 5-seater sibling. The rear window is also larger to give airy feel. The “C” column will come with a larger glass area. The SUV will have new headlamps and bumpers.
The report claims that the 7-seater SUV will also share interior panels with the Compass. However, the SUV will have all new dashboard design and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and connected car tech.
The new Jeep 7-seater SUV for India will receive the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which also powers the Compass. While powering the Compass, this engine produces 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. However, the Patriot-spec engine will offer above 200bhp of power and close to 400Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic.
