Some interesting details on the new Toyota Innova Crysta and next-generation Innova have emerged on the web. As per a fresh media report, the Japanese automaker will give a mid-life update to the existing Innova Crysta that will be done by Toyota’s Australia-based design studio. Besides this, the company will introduce the MPV’s new-generation model near around this year’s Diwali season. Called the new 2022 Toyota Innova, the model will underpin a monocoque chassis and come with petrol-hybrid powertrain and FWD (front-wheel drive) system.
The updated Toyota Innova Crysta will be sold alongside new-gen Innova that will target private buyers. The MPV’s next-generation version will be around 170kg lighter and slightly shorter than the existing model. Though, it’s wheelbase will be longer than the current Innova Crysta. The carmaker might equip the new Innova with features such as wireless smartphone charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, connected car tech, cooled seats and reclining captain’s seats with an ottoman function.
Reports suggest that the new 2022 Toyota Innova will come with the 2.0L petrol hybrid powertrain. Its hybrid model could be named Toyota Innova HYCROSS as the company recently trademarked the nameplate in India. The model might come with the localized version of the new Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II). Buyers won’t get diesel engine option with the MPV’s new-generation model.
The new Toyota Innova Crysta facelift, on the other hand, will continue to use the existing 2.4L turbo diesel engine making 150bhp and 343Nm. The petrol engine could be dropped from the updated model lineup due to its less demand among fleet buyers. The facelifted model will retain the existing ladder-frame chassis as it’s capable to tow heavy loads and cover long distances even on patchy roads with high ground clearance.
