New 2022 Toyota Innova – Shorter, Petrol-Hybrid Engine, No Diesel

Toyota has planned several new models for India including the new-gen Fortuner and Innova, a new mid-size SUV and a C-segment MPV. The next-generation Toyota Innova will be the first one to hit roads among the aforementioned models. While there is no official word on its launch timeline, the MPV is reported to arrive during this year’s Diwali season. Comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical changes will be made to the new 2022 Toyota Innova along with the new platform and a bunch of new features.

The new Innova will be designed on the brand’s TNGA-C platform that underpins the global-spec Toyota Corolla. The new monocoque chassis will make the MPV lighter (by around 170kg) than the current generation. It’s likely to enhance overall performance and efficiency of the vehicle. This time around, the MPV might source most of its design elements from the Toyota Noah and Voxy MPVs, which are sold only in the Japanese market.

Compared to the Innova Crysta, the new-generation model will be slightly shorter measuring around 4.7 metre. Though, the automaker will stretch its wheelbase to make it more spacious. The new 2022 Toyota Innova will sit on a 2,850mm longer wheelbase. The MPV will take a big leap in terms of design. Some of its key elements will include a high mounted front grille, newly-designed headlamps and revised bumper and chin.

Significant upgrades will be made inside the cabin as well. The new Toyota Innova 2022 is likely to come with the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, connected car tech, reclining captain’s seats with an ottoman function and cooled seats.

For power, the new Innova is reported to be offered with the 2.0L petrol hybrid powertrain. The company might use the localized version of the new THS II (Toyota Hybrid System II). It will have a twin-motor setup calibrated to deliver high ‘step-off’ torque and better efficiency. There will be no diesel engine on offer.

The new-generation Toyota Innova is reported to be priced lower than the existing Innova Crysta. With MPV’s new model, the company aims to attract new family buyers.
