Upcoming Petrol SUVs In India In 2021 – New Brezza, Scorpio

Seeing the growing demand for SUVs, auto manufacturers in India are planning to introduce a wide range of new SUVs in the next 1 year. Petrol powered cars are now preferred choice, as the demand for petrol cars are relatively high compared to other fuel options including diesel and CNG. In this article, we bring you a list of upcoming new petrol powered SUVs in the Indian market in the next 8 months –

Mahindra XUV700 & New Scorpio

New Mahindra XUV700 SUV

Mahindra will introduce the new XUV700 7-seater SUV in the third quarter of 2021. The company will also launch the new Scorpio before the end of this year or early next year. Both models will receive the new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which debuted in the new Thar. This mStallion 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine can produce up to 193bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. The XUV700 will receive the powerful version of this engine. Mahindra will de-tune this engine for the new Scorpio.

Hyundai Alcazar

Hyundai Alcazar Launch

Hyundai will introduce a new Alcazar 7-seater SUV in May 2021. This model is based on the new Creta’s platform; however, Hyundai engineers have modified this platform to accommodate a longer wheelbase based 7-seater SUV. The new model rides on 2,760mm long wheelbase, which is 150mm longer than that of the Creta. The SUV will be offered with 6-and 7-seat layouts. It will be powered by a new 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that offers 159PS of power and 192Nm of torque. The petrol Alcazar is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in under 10 seconds. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Next-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza

New Maruti Vitara Brezza Accessories

Maruti Suzuki will launch the next-gen Vitara Brezza compact SUV in the end of 2021. The new model will be based on the new HEARTECT platform, which will allow MSIL to fit stronger mild-hybrid system and modern connectivity features. The SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system. In the current form, this engine produces 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

Citroen C21

French automaker, Citroen will introduce its first locally made product – a sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market in Q3, 2021. Codenamed C21, the new compact SUV will be positioned against the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. The small SUV is expected to receive 1.2-litre petrol engine in naturally-aspirated and turbocharged versions. The turbo-charged version can produce up to 130bhp of power; however, the engine will be de-tuned to produce close to 100bhp.

Tata HBX

Tata HBX Timero Mini SUV

Tata Motors has officially announced to launch the production version of the HBX micro SUV during festive season, Diwali. The new model will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. Based on the ALFA modular platform, the new HBX micro SUV is rumoured to be called the Tata Timero. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine producing 86bhp and 115Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

Skoda Kushaq

Czech automaker, Skoda will launch the Kushaq mid-sized SUV in mid-2021 – around July-August. The new model will mark the debut of VW Group’s new MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the new Skoda ANB sedan and the VW Taigun. The Skoda Kushaq will be offered in two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 108bhp of power and 175Nm of torque, the 1.5L turbo unit offers 147bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic and a 7-speed DSG automatic (1.5L Petrol).

VW Taigun

The Volkswagen Taigun is scheduled to be launched during festive season, before Diwali. The new model will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. Similar to the Kushaq, the new Taigun will be offered with petrol engines only. It will be offered with a 147bhp, 1.5-litre petrol engine with 6MT & 7-speed DSG, and a 113bhp, 1.0L petrol with 6MT & 6AT.

MG Astor

MG Motors will launch the petrol version of the ZS SUV in India during festive season, Diwali. Rumoured to be called the MG Astor, the new SUV will rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The SUV is rumoured to be offered in petrol version only. It is likely to come with two petrol engine options –  a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.3-litre direct-injection turbo. While the former is good for 118bhp and 150Nm of torque, the turbocharged engine pushes out 161bhp and 230Nm of torque. The naturally-aspirated engine will be paired to a 5-speed MT, while the turbo unit will come with 6-speed manual or a torque convertor automatic.
