Upcoming Honda SUV (Creta-Rival) – Key Facts To Know

Japanese automaker, Honda is all set to introduce the much-awaited City e:HEV hybrid in the Indian market within few days. At the time of unveiling, Honda officially announced to launch an all-new mid-sized SUV in the country in 2023. The new model will be specifically designed and developed for the Indian market. It will come with unique styling, feature-loaded cabin and fuel efficient engine options.

City’s Platform

The new mid-sized SUV will be based on the City’s platform, which is heavily localised. The new platform is claimed to be lighter, safer and more rigid in structure. Adding to it, the platform is claimed to offer improved driving dynamics and NVH levels. In the ASEAN NCAP, the new City sedan secured 5 star crash test rating.

Specifications

Honda Compact SUV

The new Honda SUV is likely to share the engine options with the City sedan. It will get 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 121bhp and 145Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The company could also introduce the diesel version of the SUV with the tried & tested 99bhp, 1.5L engine.

Hybrid Powertrain

Honda has already announced to focus on strong hybrid powertrains before introducing the pure EVs in the Indian market. It is likely to get an Atkinson Cycle 1.5L, 4-cylinder engine paired to two electric motors. While the first electric motor works as an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator), the other works as a traction motor. The gasoline motor makes a top power of 98bhp and with electric assistance it delivers 109bhp. Its combined torque out stands at 253Nm. The City e:HEV is claimed to return a certified fuel economy of 26.5kmpl.

Launch Timeline

Honda has announced to introduce the new SUV in 2023. If reports are to be believed, the new model could be launched in the first half of 2023 – most probably in the second quarter. The new model will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor.

Other Details

The new Honda SUV is likely to measure around 4.3 meters in length. It is likely to share design cues from the RS concept SUV, which was unveiled last year in Indonesia. Moreover, the SUV could also share some of the styling with the HR-V and the new BR-V. In terms of styling, the new SUV could get a new grille, angular wraparound headlamps, a faux skid plate, neatly designed bumper with a wide airdam and fog lamps with vertical slats at the front end. The SUV could get a tapering roofline with a Coupe-SUV like looks.
