Toyota Hilux India Launch

The long-awaited Toyota Hilux lifestyle pick-up truck will be launched in the country on January 23, 2022. It is likely that the company will import semi-knocked down kits and then assemble at its Bidadi based plant. Expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh, the new Toyota Hilux will rival the Isuzu D-Max & the V-Cross.The Toyota Hilux lifestyle pick-up is expected to be powered by a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is capable of 204bhp and a peak torque of 500Nm. It will come with four-wheel-drive system. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Hyundai will launch the new generation Tucson SUV in the country in 2022. The new model comes with sportier and bolder design, upmarket interior and hybrid & plug-in hybrid powertrains. Based on the brand’s global Sensuous Sportiness design language, the new Tucson carries a parametric grille and unique triangular headlamps nestled in the front bumper.

The SUV gets high-end features such as a 10.3-inch dual-screen infotainment display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, two device Bluetooth connectivity, digital instrument cluster, air quality monitoring system, 64 colour ambient lighting and many more. It could also get an hybrid version, which features a  1.6L inline-four turbo engine, a 44.2kW electric motor and 1.49kWh battery pack delivering combined power of 226bhp and 350Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid model has the same turbo four engine with the bigger 13.8kWh battery and a 66.9kW electric motor.

American SUV maker, Jeep will launch the new Meridian 7-seater SUV in the country in mid-2022. Based on the Compass platform, the new model will rival the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq and the Toyota Fortuner. The new model will be offered in two seating layouts – 6-and 7-seater with former having captain seats in the second row. The new Meridian will be powered by a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It will come with multiple drive modes and AWD system.

Mahindra is readying an all-new Coupe SUV, which is rumoured to be called the Mahindra XUV900. It could be the production version ofthe XUV Aero concept, which debuted at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Mahindra XUV900 four-door SUV Coupe will share the platform and mechanics with the upcoming Mahindra XUV700 7-seater SUV. The SUV Coupe could also share the front fenders, hood and front doors with the 7-seater SUV. It is likely to get a more premium cabin and several segment-leading features. The SUV Coupe will also share the engine options front the soon-to-be-launched XUV700. It will get the 2.0L mStallion petrol and 2.2L diesel mHawk engines with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox options.

Korean automaker, Kia is planning to launch the new generation Carnival MPV in the Indian market. The new model is longer, wider, taller and more spacious than the current model. It measures 5155mm in length, 1,995mm in width and 1,775mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,090mm (30mm longer than the existing Indian version). In India, the new-generation Carnival is likely to use the same 2.2L diesel engine pushing out a peak power of 200bhp and 440Nm. Transmission will also remain unchanged – i.e. an 8-speed automatic.

The updated version of the Kona EV will come with updated exterior & interior along with new mechanical changes. It gets a revised front with a new closed grille and new LED DRLs. There is an asymmetric charging port, which is unique to the Kona Electric. There are new vertical air inlets in front of the wheel arch claddings, which claims to enhance its aerodynamics. At the back, the 2021 Hyundai Kona EV gets revised bumper and new horizontally-stretched rear lamps. The cabin will also come with a larger 10.25-inch instrument console and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It will also get Hyundai Bluelink connected car tech. The Electric Version is likely to get a larger battery variant, featuring a 64kWh battery and an electric motor delivering 204PS & 395Nm. This model accelerates to 100kmph from zero in 7.9 seconds and offers a class-leading range of 484kms on a single charge.
