Toyota’s Upcoming Crossover To Rival Magnite, Kiger; More Details

Toyota is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. In the past 1 year, the Japanese brand launched multiple new products including the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Innova Hycross. The company has discontinued the Urban Cruiser sub-4 meter SUV from its line-up. However, the company will soon have a new model in the sub-4 meter SUV/Crossover category. Codenamed A15, the upcoming Toyota crossover will be based on the newly introduced Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

The new Toyota A15 crossover will be positioned against the likes of the Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite. It will receive all-new front and rear design to distinguish itself from the Fronx. The spy images reveal that the new model will share the front design with the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Moreover, the rear design will be inspired by the Yaris Cross on sale in select international markets. In fact, the Yaris Cross has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads.

Maruti Fronx Launch

The Toyota crossover will share the cabin with the Fronx; however, the interior colour scheme could be revised to give a fresh feel. The new model will be offered with features like a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, HUD or heads-up display, connected car tech, automatic AC with rear AC vents, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and others.

Similar to the Fronx, the upcoming Toyota crossover will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0L 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol and a 1.2L Dualjet petrol. Both powertrains will be benefited with Suzuki’s mild hybrid technology. While the former is good for 100bhp and 147.6Nm of torque, the dualjet unit produces 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual as standard, a 6-speed torque convertor with 1.0L and an AMT with 1.2L engine.
