Toyota’s 1st Electric SUV India Launch Details – Creta EV Fighter

The Indian automobile industry has been gradually shifting towards electric vehicles over the past couple of years. While car manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Skoda, VW, and Toyota are gearing up to enter this growing segment, Hyundai, Kia, and Tata are planning to expand their existing EV product portfolio in the coming years. According to a fresh report, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is set to launch its first electric SUV by September – October 2025. It will be the production-ready version of the Toyota Urban SUV concept, which was previewed in December 2023 and is based on the Maruti Suzuki eVX platform.

The Toyota Urban SUV concept and Maruti eVX share the same platform (27PL skateboard architecture), as well as body panels and interior trim. The architecture will be heavily localized and manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat-based facility for both domestic and export markets. However, the design and styling of both models differ. The Urban EV takes design cues from the bZ compact SUV concept, featuring C-shaped LED DRLs, a minimalist front bumper, flared wheel arches, a C-pillar integrated rear door handle, and an LED light bar at the rear.

In terms of dimensions, the Urban SUV measures 4300mm in length, 1820mm in width, and 1620mm in height. While its length matches that of the Maruti eVX, the latter is 20mm shorter and narrower. The wheelbase is expected to be around 2,700mm. The powertrain options for the new Toyota electric SUV will include two battery pack options – a 48kWh and a 60kWh – delivering an expected range of over 400km and 550km, respectively. Buyers will have the choice between FWD and dual-motor AWD setups.

Additionally, Toyota Kirloskar Motor plans to introduce a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, likely to be named the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. While a few changes will be made to its exterior, the interior and engine setup will remain unchanged. The micro SUV will be offered with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engine options. The Japanese automaker will also launch the new-generation Fortuner and a premium 7-seater SUV.
