Toyota Rumion: How Could It Differ from the Maruti Ertiga?

The Toyota Rumion, the upcoming re-badged Maruti Suzuki MPV from the Japanese automaker, is set to go on sale by September 2023. It will be based on the popular Maruti Ertiga, which has been dominating the segment since its launch in 2012. The introduction of the Rumion will not only mark Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s entry into the compact MPV segment but is also expected to boost its overall sales. The Rumion and Ertiga will share many similarities in terms of design, features, and powertrain, but there will be a few elements that will differentiate the two models.

What will be different?

In terms of design, the Rumion will feature Toyota’s signature grille, similar to what we have seen in the Innova. The grille will have a mesh pattern with chrome surrounding and the Toyota logo positioned at the center. Additionally, the front and rear bumpers will be revised, and the front bumper might get silver or brushed aluminum inserts on the lower section.

While the side profile of the Rumion will largely remain unchanged, it will come with a distinct all-black interior theme, unlike the dual-tone beige and black theme of the Maruti Ertiga. The MPV’s steering wheel will also feature Toyota’s logo, and the Japanese automaker may introduce new exterior color options for the Rumion in addition to the regular shades. What will be similar?

In terms of dimensions, there will be no changes as the Toyota Rumion will retain the same measurements as the Maruti Ertiga. It will measure 4,395mm in length, 1,735mm in width, and 1,690mm in height. Key design elements such as projector headlamps, side creases, and tailgate with chrome garnish will remain intact.

As for features, the Rumion will come equipped with similar offerings as the Ertiga, including a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, connected car features, a 6-speaker audio system, height-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic AC, push start/stop button, and rear defogger.

Under the hood, the Toyota Rumion MPV will use the same 1.5L petrol engine found in the Maruti Ertiga. The engine produces a peak power of 102bhp and 136.8Nm of torque. Both manual (5-speed) and torque converter automatic (6-speed) gearboxes will be available as transmission options. Additionally, there is a possibility that Toyota might also launch the Rumion in a CNG variant alongside its petrol version.
