Toyota Hilux Champ Based On IMV0 Platform Revealed – India Bound?

We reported earlier that Toyota had showcased the IMV0 platform based concept pickup at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show in Japan. The company has now revealed the production version of the lifestyle pickup, called the Toyota Hilux Champ in Thailand. The pick-up will first go on sale in Thailand, and it will also be launched in more markets like Indonesia, Africa and South America.

The IMV 0 is basically the affordable version of the IMV platform that underpins the Hilux lifestyle pickup and the Fortuner SUV. The Toyota Hilux Champ has been introduced as a customisable vehicle in 10 configurations, depending on the market. Customers can customise the Hilux champ as per its needs by third-party car body-builders.

Toyota Hilux Champ Specs

The IMV 0 platform based pick-up will be aimed at customers looking for an affordable alternative to the Hilux pick-up. The Hilux Champ is available in 3 powertrain options – a 2.4-litrr diesel, a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 2.7-litre petrol. The diesel engine is capable of producing 150bhp and 350Nm with 5-speed MT & 400Nm with 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2.0L NA petrol engine is good for 130bhp and 183Nm of torque, while the 2.7L unit is good for 166bhp and 245Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit. The pick-up truck could also get a strong hybrid petrol option in some markets.

In terms of proportions, the Toyota Hilux Champ is 4.9 metres in length, 1.8 metres in width and 1.8 metres in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,750mm. The wheelbase is identical to the Toyota Innova Crysta. The Hilux Champ Long-Wheelbase version is 5.3 metres long, and has a wheelbase of 3,085mm. Both models get a 180mm ground clearance.

Toyota is yet to confirm the launch of the Hilux Champ in India; however, the IMV 0 platform could be introduced in our market. This ladder-frame unit is likely to spawn an affordable version of the Fortuner SUV. Both Hilux Champ and the affordable version of the Fortuner could be introduced in our market in future.
