The huge success of new Harley Davidson X440 and the Triumph Speed 400 have prompted automakers to launch more motorcycles in this fast growing 400cc-500cc segment. Royal Enfield, Bajaj and Hero MotoCorp will also enter this space with multiple new motorcycles in the next 1-2 years. Here is a list of top 5 upcoming 400cc motorcycles in the Indian market in 2024-25.

Hero Mavrick 440

Hero MotoCorp has unveiled its biggest motorcycle, the Mavrick 440 which is scheduled to be launched in our market in the next 2-3 months. Bookings for the new Hero Mavrick motorcycle will commence in February, while deliveries will begin in April 2024. To be sold through Hero’s Premia dealer network, the new 440cc motorcycle will rival the Triumph Speed 400, Honda CB300R and others in the segment. It will be powered by an Air cooled with oil cooler 2V single-cylinder 440cc ‘TorqX’ engine with electronic fuel injection. This engine produces 27bhp at 6000rpm and a peak torque of 36Nm at 4000rpm. Royal Enfield is working on multiple new motorcycle, which will be based on the brand’s new 450cc engine platform. This platform underpins the new Himalayan 450 and will also be used to develop an all-new Hunter 450. The motorcycle will share the styling cues from the 350cc sibling; however, the cycle parts will be sourced from the Himalayan 450. Instead of USDs, the new Hunter 450 will receive telescopic front forks and monoshock unit at the rear. The motorcycle will also receive the new round-shaped instrument console with in-built maps. Bajaj Auto has confirmed that its biggest ever Pulsar will be launched in early 2024. Rumoured to be called the Bajaj Pulsar NS400, the new motorcycle will be based on the existing perimeter frame that underpins the NS200. The platform will be tweaked to accommodate a more power and bigger capacity engine. Bajaj currently has 3 different engines in the same category – the 373cc engine (Dominar), a 398cc (Triumph) and a new 399cc (new KTM Duke 390). Bajaj-Triumph JV had launched the Speed 400 roadster and the Scrambler 400X in the country in 2023. The company will introduce multiple new motorcycles on the same platform. It is expected that the company could introduce the Triumph Thruxton 400 that has been spotted testing on the foreign soil. The motorcycle will share several design elements with the Speed 400 including the wheels, bar-end mirrors, round LED headlamps and the fuel tank. The motorcycle will have the same upswept exhaust muffler and 17-inch front wheel. It will have a more aggressively placed footpegs, a compact rear LED tail-lamp, a cafe racer front cowl, USD front forks and monoshock at the rear. It will be powered by a 398cc, single-cylinder TR-series engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This engine churns out 40bhp at 8000rpm and a peak torque of 37.5Nm at 6500rpm. Buoyed by positive response for Harley-Davdison X440, Hero MotoCorp is now planning to launch more motorcycles on the same engine platform. In fact, Hero has trademarked the Nightster 440 name in India. This suggests that this could be the second Harley to be based on 440cc engine. For people not in the know, Harley-Davidson is already selling the Nighster 975 in the global markets. It will be a sportier motorcycle and will target urban riders. The motorcycle will be powered by a 440cc, single-cylinder, oil/air-cooled engine that’s good for 27bhp at 6000rpm and 38Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The gearbox will also be borrowed from the Harley’s new X440, but the unit might have different gear ratios.
