The Indian auto industry is going through tough phase due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Car sales dropped significantly due to rising input cost and unavaibility of semiconductor chips. Despite all the issues, few brands have managed to increase their sales.
Here is a list of top 10 car companies in the financial year 2021-22 –

– Maruti Suzuki sold 13.31 lakh cars last financial year. The company currently holds 43% market share, which is its lowest in eight years. MSIL had a market share of about 50% until FY20. The reason behind the decline is due to lack of products in SUV segment. Also, MSIL has stopped producing diesel cars in the country.
– Hyundai Motor India sold 4.81 lakh cars last financial year. Hyundai reported a constant sales decline in the past couple of years, mainly due to rising competition. Hyundai currently hold 15.78% market share, which is 2 percent less compared to its previous Financial years.
– Tata Motors received overwhelming response from buyers, as it currently holds the third position in the list of top 10 car makers. The company’s market share jumped to 12.14% from 8.27%. The homegrown automaker doubled its market share to over 12% in FY2022 compared to 6.8% in FY 2018-19. The company sold over 3.7 lakh cars in FY2022 as compared to 2.24 lakh cars in FY2021.
– Mahindra has also improved its market share by almost 2 percent. It currently holds 7.40% market share with more than 2.25 lakh sales in last financial year.
– Kia Motor India sold 1.87 lakh cars with 6.12% market share in the last financial year. The company has recently introduced the Carens MPV, which has already received over 50K bookings. The sales are expected to further increase in near future.
– Toyota and Renault holds 6th and 7th positions with 4.06% and 2.87% market shares respectively. Honda slipped to 8th position with 2.81% percent market.
– Skoda and Volkswagen combined holds 2.16% share in FY2022. MG Motor India record is at 10th position with 1.32% market share.
