Tesla is reportedly working on an all-new electric hatchback, which will be positioned against the globally popular Volkswagen ID 3. Tesla could reveal the electric hatchback at Tesla’s Investor Day on March 1, 2023. On this day, Elon Musk, CEO Tesla will announce the brand’s third-generation EV platform.
Tesla has released a new preview video of the major event, which shows different design sketches of the facelifted Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y. A side profile drawing of the brand’s smallest & most affordable electric model has also been revealed in the video. This teaser previews three doors & much smaller proportions than the Model 3.
It is expected that the electric hatchback could be based on Tesla’s next-gen EV platform, internally called Generation 3. Elon Musk earlier said that the new platform will allow Tesla to cut production costs & double its current output. The new electric hatchback is expected to cost somewhere around $25,000 (approx INR 20.65 Lakh). At this price point, it will cost nearly half the price of the brand’s current most affordable model – the Model 3.
The new Tesla hatchback is likely to be packed with a 50kWh battery pack, which should offer a range of around 400kms on a single charge. The new model is reportedly to be produced in China. In fact, Tesla China has posted a job offering to prospective factory workers. The poster also has the picture of the same nameless compact hatchback.
