Tata Motors has confirmed that it will reveal the Tiago EV on 28th September 2022. After the Tigor EV and Nexon EV, it will be the third electric offering from the home-grown automaker in the country. Details of the model are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to receive minor cosmetic changes along with a smaller battery pack than the Tigor EV. The latter comes with a 26kWh battery pack delivering a claimed range of up to 306kms on a single charge.
The Tata Tiago EV is expected to offer a range of around 300km. With a smaller battery pack, the electric hatchback will return slightly less power and torque than the Tigor EV. As mentioned above, a few changes could be made to its exterior. The model might feature a closed-off grille, Blue highlights along with new colour schemes.
As far as pricing is concerned, the Tata Tiago electric will cost around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). If launched at this price point, it become the most affordable electric car in the country. Currently, the Tigor EV is available within the price range of Rs 12.49 lakh – Rs 13.64 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi).
Tata Motors had announced its plan to launch 10 new electric cars by March 2026. The project will include an investment of around $2 billion for the new vehicle architecture and related technology and infrastructure. The future Tata electric cars will have a minimum range of 500 km and advanced technology features to target wider audience. The company aims to increase its annual production of EVs to over 80,000 units this fiscal year.
In a latest update, the Pune-based automaker is working on a new and more powerful 2.2L diesel engine that might replace the Harrier and Safari’s existing 2.0L motor. The new unit will be benefited with Lean NOx Traps, Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and AdBlue.
