Tata Tiago CNG To Rival Maruti WagonR CNG – Spied

We reported earlier that Tata Motors is preparing to launch the new CNG variants of the Tiago and the Tigor. The new models will be launched in the second half of 2021, around Diwali. The Tata Tiago hatchback with CNG powertrain has been caught testing without any covers.

For people not in the know, the Tata Tiago is currently on sale in petrol version only. The company has already discontinued the diesel version of the hatchback, which was equipped with a 1.05-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine.

Tata Tiago CNG Spotted

Like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors is looking at alternative fuel option. The CNG cars offer lower running costs compared to petrol engine, and would appeal to diesel engine buyers. The spotted Tiago CNG looks identical to the existing model; however, the windshield of the car has a stricker that confirms CNG powertrain.

The spotted Tata Tiago CNG is based on the mid-level XZ trim, which will receive the existing 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. It is expected that the CNG variant will see a marginal drop in power output while running on CNG. The factory-fitted CNG kit could also impact the Tiago’s boot space.

The regular Tata Tiago petrol AMT is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 23.84kmpl. It is expected that the CNG variant will deliver over 25km/kg. It will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki WagonR CNG and the Hyundai Santro CNG.

Tata Motors will also launch the HBX concept based micro SUV during festive season, before Diwali. The new micro SUV is rumoured to be called the Tata Timero. It will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. The small SUV will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with MT & AMT options.
